Portals: Porous Gestures <Portals: Porous Gestures> features 11 artists from six countries who gather their diverse research and creative works on Jeju, an island unique geographically, environmentally, and culturally, to artistically unravel the influence of the human-centered systems that have shaped the present day.
The exhibition illuminates from various angles the points where multi-layered contexts—such as human and non-human, women, gentrification, ecology, and circulatory systems—intersect.
The participating artists focus on the "gaps" left by traces of resistance within the heavy framework solidly woven of desire and violence, reflecting the degeneration of the bodies, minds, and spiritualities of lives exploited to sustain the human and non-human, material, capital, and selfish liberalism.
These gaps serve as a cave for navigating the present and the future, as well as a conduit through which spirituality flows, reaching to the hearts of individuals and the planet.
By protecting these gaps and becoming one and multiplying through them, the artists weigh the oppressive burden of a system rationalized for the sake of capital.
Furthermore, they perceive the speed of exploitation directed at the bodies and spirituality of "us" (humans and non-humans) both inside and outside the Earth's skin.
Thus, they place their own will and position upon the possibilities of balance, peace, and love that still pulsate, unfolding attempts to restore and enrich these realms.
The artists participating in the exhibition are Tom Haiet, Lucas Lugarinho, and Maria Jose Crespo.
